Painting is my dream; it takes me to a place of peace and happiness. I hope this artwork brings the same to you.
Is it the sun or moon, evening or morn? Tranquility can be what you want it to be. I was inspired by a photo I saw (details below) and it’s what I wanted to paint when I was no longer intimidated by a plain white canvas and when I felt comfortable enough to go beyond instructor-chosen subject matter. I consider this my first painting (2021), and it’s still my favorite. Credit goes to Gustave Le Gray who produced the original photograph, an albumen print, back in 1856-57. He titled it Solar Effect in the Clouds-Ocean and it is held at the Art Institute of Chicago. 12″ x 16″ framed

Morning Gull (2022) in Ocean City. 15″ x 15″ framed
“I’m okay,” said the gull to the sea, “but here with you is where I need to be. My heart is troubled and there’s so much to say, so I scream out my words and you take them away. Your waves come to shore and gently return and slowly my heart ceases to burn. You soften my spirit, you calm my soul. You hear me, you listen, you make me whole.” “I’m okay,” said the gull to the sea. “Yes, I’m okay,” said the gull to the sea. The Gull (2022) 15″ x 19″ framed
The original painting of The Gull (2022) is thought provoking on its own, but the words of the gull, which I added in 2023, relay a message that might reflect the feelings of many people who stand at the edge of the sea.
